Today I’m sharing a look inside a few of my sketchbooks to give you a behind the scenes peek at how I go from inspiration to a finished painting.
First, a few thoughts on inspiration. As a designer and an artist I am (obviously) very visual. I am constantly soaking in what I see throughout the day and night. I might catch a glimpse of the perfect wave on a beach walk or see the most vibrant color purple from a garden; or perhaps it’s an image from a Fashion or Home magazine that could give me an idea to base a painting on at night.
Sometimes I store this inspiration in my “mental files”, sometimes I save a photograph or tear out a page from a magazine and put it in an actual oversized portfolio I use as my inspiration file.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this look inside my sketchbooks and a further peek into my inspiration and process for creating a painting. I love seeing the sketches next to the finished paintings ~ what a difference! If you have any questions about my sketchbooks, inspiration, or paintings, please ask away in the the comments!
