This week’s painting has been percolating for many months. Back in January, Leslie Carothers, a dear friend, business mentor and social media star, posted this photo of a lovely golden gown.
The artist in me was drawn to the color and style of the dress and I immediately printed out the photo and placed it in my inspiration file.
Over the past few years I have painted a variety of subject matter in an effort to refine my skills as well as discover where my personal style and aesthetic “fit in”. I was so happy while painting my interpretation of this dress that I believe I had an stylistic epiphany of sorts.
Maybe this is what Pamela Copeman Art could be known for: gowns with bold colors and abstract brushstrokes.
One of my closest confidantes and advisors, my daughter Emily, recently reminded me of advice I’d given to her when she was in college and struggling with coming up with topics to write about. “Write what you know” is what I told her. It should’ve come as no surprised when she reflected those words back to me after seeing this painting, “Mom, this is what you know! Paint this!”.
